This flying capstan is a lightweight friction device used to introduce friction into a rope set up to aid controlled lowering of cut limbs. Measuring 265mm x 230mm x 75mm and made from galvanised steel, the THLD1 is an economical lowering device, with its main advantages being light weight and ease of set up. Normally attached to the base of the base of the tree with a loopie or round sling, the lower-wrap can be used in conjunction with a mechanical advantage pulley system for lifting and lowering.
The Treehog THLD 2 is a heavy duty lowering bollard designed to be attached to base of a tree. It comes with two heavy duty webbing ratchet straps for this purpose, and the kit comes in a handy carry bag made of heavy duty PVC material. The THLD 2 is mounted on the base of the tree with the two ratchet straps and the lowering line is then passed around the main tube a number of times, to introduce friction into the system. This enables the groundsman to control the descent of a cut limb and avoid shock loading of the rigging system and tree.
